Unit Name: Kimerot Group
Unit Type: Lithostratigraphic
Rank: Group
Status: Formal
Usage: Currently in use
Age Interval: Early Proterozoic (2500 - 1600 ma)
Province/Territory: Nunavut

Originator: Grotzinger et al., 1987.

Type Locality:
The type areas for the Kenyon and Peg formations are in the vicinity of Peg Lake and Kenyon Lake, where both are well exposed (Grotzinger et al., 1987).

Distribution:
Contained within the Kilohigok Basin (Grotzinger et al., 1987).

Lithology:
The Kimerot Group contains two formations, the lower Kenyon Formation and the overlying Peg Formation. These formations correspond to the lower "siliclastic part" and the upper "carbonate part" of the old Kimerot Platform (c.f. Grotzinger and Gall, 1986) (Grotzinger et al., 1987).

Relationship:
The Kimerot Group is part of the Goulburn Supergroup. It unconformably overlies Archean basement and is overlain by the Hackett Formation of the Bear Creek Group (Grotzinger et al., 1987).

History:
The name Kimerot Group was proposed by Grotzinger et al. (1987) for the units previously designated as belonging to the "Kimerot Platform" (c.f. Campbell and Cecile, 1981; Tirrul, 1985; Grotzinger and Gall, 1986) of the lower Western River Formation. The name Western River Formation was discarded, and does not occur in the new nomenclature (Grotzinger et al., 1987).
