Type Locality:

Piling Bay - Piling Lake - Flint Lake region, central Baffin Island.

Distribution:

Occurs over several thousand square km in central Baffin Island in Foxe Fold Belt and is possibly in excess of 4,000 m thick.

Lithology:

A basal meta-orthoquartzite and meta-arkose unit followed upward by marble and calc-silicates, sulphide iron-formation consisting of graphitic sulphide-bearing metachert and oxide facies iron-formation, pillowed meta-basalt, metagreywacke-metashale.

Relationship:

Lies unconformably on Archean granitic gneiss basement in some places; relations generally uncertain. Intruded by granitic rocks, which are common to the south.

History:

First described by Kranck and Eade (Kranck, 1951, 1953b, 1955; Eade, 1953); Kranck used the term 'Clyde Series' to refer to part of the stratigraphic sequence. Described by Jackson in 1969, and named in 1971.
