The Woodbend was originally established as the unit within the Minnewanka Group characterized by rapid and large-scale facies changes found below the Winterburn Formation and above the Beaverhill Lake Formation and containing the Ireton, Duvernay, and Cooking Lake members. The Woodbend Formation has since been elevated to group status.
